What is this? A dating profile? No, but I guess I should attempt at least some half-assed effort to sum up my existence and this blog.

I married a Naval Officer in May 2011 and am only now about to really dive head first into Navy life, as my husband starts a tour as a Commanding Officer (CO) [August 2012].  Now I get to don a nickname I’ve managed to avoid since learning the societal trappings of body image. COW [Commanding Officer’s Wife].  How did they know I got fat this year?

Why “Unlikely”?

(1) I never wanted to marry a member of the armed forces.  I work for the Department of Defense myself, I see enough uniforms, I didn’t want to wash them too.  Plus, that whole “have your spouse gone for long periods of time” concept did not thrill me.

(2) DH and I met In-The-Middle-Of-Nowhere, Virginia.  I lived in DC for 3 years prior and MI almost all the rest without meeting “the one”.  Who knew I would meet my husband in a town unknown to even native Virginians?

(3) I’m fortunate that DH is no longer in a position to deploy or go to sea duty, nor was he since we’ve been together.  I just get to experience the joy of PCSing for the next 5 years.

(4) Our duty station will be in Michigan. Not exactly a “normal” Navy spot.  In fact, I frequently field the question, “what exactly does the Navy do in Michigan?”

(5) I’m opinionated,  I speak my mind and I’m sarcastic.  In an organization that thrives on giving orders and compliance it’s not exactly a coveted quality.

(6) Oh, and I have the mouth of a sailor.  Maybe that falls more into the “likely” category?
